I love working on vellum. Of course, it’s not real vellum. There are no animals, no skins and definitely no hemispherical knife involved. It is like drafting paper but there is a certain waxy, opaque sensibility about it that feels different from regular paper. I’ve had a roll of it around the studio for ages, have moved it from place to place and then finally decided that it was time to play. This is often how a series start, when I’m concentrating on finishing something else and need a break from ‘serious’ decision making. By experimenting, by exploring and by playing.
